PSA: Stop letting AI write your customer emails for you

I keep seeing people in here pushing these fully automated email sequences where the AI writes everything from scratch. Tried that for about 3 months with a client in Portland who runs a boutique coffee roastery. The open rates dropped by 12% compared to when I was writing the emails myself. The problem is the AI has no feel for your actual customers. It uses words like "curated" and "elevate" that nobody says in real life. My clients customers started replying asking if they got hacked or if a robot took over. Now I only use AI to pull out key points from customer feedback and I write the actual email copy myself. Anyone else run into this wall where the AI just sounds fake no matter how you prompt it?

Hard disagree. If your AI emails sound robotic you're just not prompting it right or you picked the wrong tool for the job. I run a small landscaping company and switched fully to AI written customer follow-ups and thank you notes six months ago. My reply rates actually went up because they reply faster and more consistently than when I was handwriting everything and forgetting to send them half the time. You just gotta feed it good examples of your voice first.

Six months in and your reply rates went up, that's cool and all but I'm not convinced it's that deep lol. I've seen so many businesses jump on the AI train thinking it's a magic fix and then they end up with emails that sound like a robot trying to imitate a human and it just falls flat. You're lucky you found a tool that works for you but for every one success story there's like ten people who ended up with generic junk their customers can see right through. Honestly sometimes the whole process of writing an email yourself, even if you forget half the time, shows more effort than letting an AI spit out something.
