Serious question, did anyone else see that AI ad stat from last month?
I was looking at the latest report from the marketing analytics firm we use, and it said AI-generated ad copy got a 38% lower click-through rate than human-written copy in our sector. That's from 4,000 campaigns they tracked, not some small sample. I nearly dropped my coffee when I read it, because we've been pushing AI copy for six months now. We switched one client's campaign back to human copy last week and saw engagement jump almost immediately. Has anyone else run a side-by-side test like this, or are we all just trusting the AI hype?
My buddy Dave runs a small shop in Boise and had almost the same thing happen. He let AI write all his email subject lines for about four months, and his open rate slid from 22% down to like 14%. He blamed it on the holidays at first, then went back to writing them himself in January and it bounced right back up within two weeks. The weird part is he said the AI lines looked fine on paper, they just all sounded the same after a while, like every email had the same voice. So yeah, your 38% number doesn't shock me at all.
