Spent $400 on AI ad tools for a client, then watched Google eat the whole budget in 8 days
I run marketing for a few small property clients on the side, and two weeks ago I finally talked one into letting me test an AI ad platform. The pitch was simple: feed it the listing photos and budget, let it write and target the ads, no babysitting. First 3 days were great, cost per lead dropped to $11 and I'm thinking I cracked the code. Then day 4 it started bidding on junk searches like 'free apartment locator' and 'section 8 help near me' that have nothing to do with a $1,800 unit in Rochester. By day 8 the whole $400 was gone and we had 2 real leads, so I pulled the plug and went back to writing the copy myself. The tool didn't fail, I failed by not setting negative keywords and a hard daily cap from the jump. Has anyone found an AI setup that actually respects a small budget, or am I just supposed to watch it like a hawk for the first month?
