Update: My buddy said AI email subject lines were too generic and he was right

A friend who runs a small ecommerce shop told me to stop using AI to write subject lines because they all sounded the same. After 2 weeks of A/B testing, his version with human written ones got a 14% higher open rate. Has anyone else noticed AI tools just recycle the same patterns for email campaigns?

14% is actually huge for just subject lines. I was skeptical at first too but then I tested it myself on my newsletter list of about 2,000 subscribers. My AI subject lines were all "5 ways to [solve problem]" or "The secret to [benefit]" and they got totally ignored. When I wrote dumb stuff like "My dog ate my spreadsheet" or "This took way too long to figure out" the open rate shot up like crazy. I honestly thought AI would at least be decent at this but it just spits out the same boring templates over and over.

Did AI really think we wanted to read the same boring junk we ignore every day?
