Flipped on AI masking after 3 weeks of fighting it

I used to trash AI background removers because they kept eating my subject's hair edges, especially on curly textures. Then I watched a guy in a FB group demo the same tool with a layer mask and a 0.5 pixel feather, and it cleaned up in 40 seconds what took me 15 minutes manually. Anyone else find the trick is treating AI output as a starting point, not the final cut?
