My AI upscaler turned my grandma's 1974 wedding photo into a wax museum figure
Ran her original scan through a free AI restore tool on a Tuesday night and it smoothed out every wrinkle until she looked like a Madame Tussauds reject, so now I'm wondering if anyone knows a tool that actually keeps the grain instead of erasing real faces.
Used to think cranking up the smoothness on old photos was the whole point, like more polish equals better. Then my dad's 1968 Navy picture came back with his eyes looking like glass beads and I finally got it. All that noise and grain is the photo, not a problem to fix. Now I just scan at high res and leave it mostly alone, maybe nudge exposure a tiny bit.
