My photographer friend in Denver talked me out of the AI watermark trend

We were editing shots last Tuesday and I showed him my new AI watermark generator, the one that embeds invisible tracking codes into every image. He laughed and pulled up a client's stolen photo on some stock site. The watermark did nothing to stop it, the theft was already done. He said the real value is in metadata and reverse image search alerts, not hidden codes. Cost me $30 a month for that tool and it gave me false confidence. Has anyone else had a false sense of security with an AI protection feature before? What actually works for you when someone rips your work?
