Overheard a new guy say torque wrenches are just for show
Was at TexAir in Dallas last Tuesday. This A&P fresh out of school said torque wrenches are overkill for most jobs. Said he just goes by feel. I had to walk away. Told him that's how you get a control cable snapping at 10,000 feet. Has anyone else seen juniors skip torque specs on critical stuff?

Torque wrenches are cheap, crash landings ain't.

Man that's terrifying. You just don't mess with torque on anything that moves or holds pressure. I saw a guy snap a cylinder head bolt once 'cause he thought he could feel what 80 ft-lbs was. Engine lost compression on climb out, had to feather the prop on the way back. Not worth it.
