That loose cargo strap nearly took out a ramp agent at LAX last Tuesday

I was doing a walkaround before pushback and saw a strap flapping on the cargo door latch, so now I double check every single restraint before closing up, anyone else had a near miss from a basic strap fail?

Had a buddy who almost got decked by a loose tie-down strap on a 757 at JFK, he still talks about it like it was a close call in a war zone. Now he triple checks every latch and buckle before he signs off.

Nora says one close call stays with you forever, but I'm not sure about that. Your buddy might be building it up in his head more than it deserves. Tie-down straps are a real hazard, sure, but getting "decked" by one and surviving with just a story sounds like he got off easy compared to the guys who actually get killed by falling cargo or blown tires. He could be triple checking everything for the next twenty years and it wouldn't change the fact that he was lucky once and probably won't be again. At some point you have to trust your training and move on or you'll drive yourself crazy checking every little thing.

Get that, @the_olivia. One close call like that stays with you forever.
