That spin test I ran on a CFM56 fan blade after a bird strike out at O'Hare last month showed me things I wasn't ready for
We had a 737 come in with a pretty nasty bird strike to the fan, and after I spun up that blade and saw the vibration data, I realized my old inspection methods were missing cracks way smaller than I thought. Anyone else had a moment where a routine check turned into a full blown teardown?

Drove two hours to Chicago on a Saturday because a guy I know swore he saw a hairline crack on a -7 stage disc during a routine boroscope. Ended up pulling the whole engine and finding not just that crack but three others hiding in places the manual said were impossible. Made me wonder if we're all just one lucky inspection away from a really bad day.
