A commercial client in Nashville told me my panel mounts were too sloppy

He was a retired electrical contractor and said he could see my zip tie cuts sticking out from across the room. Has anyone else had a customer call them out on something that made you tighten up your whole install game?

Did he actually walk over and point it out, or just mention it from across the room... that's a whole different level of being watched.

Respectfully, I gotta push back a little here, @lisa_grant. You said it's "a whole different level of being watched" if he walked over, but in my experience, the across-the-room thing can actually be creepier. If a boss is sitting behind you all day and just mutters "your screen is sideways" from 30 feet, that means he's been staring at your setup for a while without you knowing. Walking over is more direct, sure, but also more honest about what he's doing. Your mileage may vary, but I've had both happen and the silent observer type is harder to shake off.

I used to think it was overkill to hide every little cut and tail, but that guy changed my mind real quick. If a retired contractor can spot a zip tie nub from across a room, then a lot of customers probably notice more than we give them credit for. It made me slow down and treat every little detail like it was the only thing someone would see.
