A homeowner's comment about my wire runs made me rethink everything

I had this job last month up in the suburbs, and the customer was watching me run wires in the attic. She pointed out that I was just laying them across the joists instead of securing them every few feet. I told her that was standard for attic runs, but she said her last installer used those little J-hooks and it looked much neater. I was a bit put off at first, but when I went back to finish the basement zone, I decided to try it her way. Took maybe an extra 15 minutes per run, but the finished job looked a lot more professional. Has anyone else had a customer give you a tip that actually turned out to be good advice?

Did a network rack install last year where the guy asked if I could bundle and velcro all the patch cables instead of just leaving them loose. Took maybe 20 extra minutes total but the rack ended up looking clean enough that the client took a photo for their company newsletter. Little stuff like that goes a long way for referrals.

@wade767 nailed it with that rack story. Used to think extra steps were just wasted time until a client showed me how much cleaner cat6 looks with cable management bars. Little details like that definitely make you look more legit, even if it feels annoying at first.
