An installer in Tulsa told me my keypad height was 'for kids' and now I carry a tape everywhere
I set every keypad at 48 inches for years, just eyeballed it off the door frame because that seemed fine. Then a guy named Ray who has been doing this trade since the 90s walked one of my jobs in Tulsa and said, plain as day, "that pad's for a 10 year old, put it at the homeowner's shoulder" and I stood there kind of annoyed but he was right. Turns out I never asked a single customer to stand where they'd actually punch the code in, I just slapped it up at my own height and moved on. Now I carry a tape and ask the main user to plant their feet by the door, and I mark the spot at about 55 to 57 inches depending on the person. Small deal, but it cut my callback gripes about reaching the thing way down, maybe 2 or 3 a month before and none since spring. Ray didn't say it mean, he just said it like it was obvious, which stung more honestly. So what height are you all setting your keypads at, are you going off shoulder height or do you just keep it at the same number every house?
