DSC panel swap in a 1990s home changed my whole install approach

Tbh I did a panel swap in a house from the 90s last month and the difference was night and day. The old setup had door sensors wired with 2-conductor that kept giving false alarms because of corrosion on the terminals. I switched to a new keypad bus and added a zone expander instead of running new wire, took about 4 hours extra but the homeowner said the system finally feels solid. Has anyone else run into older homes where the wiring is fine but the panel just needs a fresh brain to stop ghosting?

My buddy Mike hit this exact thing last month on a 92 build. The zones were reading fine on the meter but the old panel would just drop a sensor every couple days. He swapped in a newer board and added a wireless translator for the far side of the house. Said he spent more time labeling the old wire than actually wiring the new setup. Now the owner texts him a thumbs up every few weeks just to confirm nothing's ghosting.
