I finally got why my old mentor pushed me to label every single wire on a panel

Had a call with a guy last week who inherited a mess from some installer who left all the wires unlabeled. Took him 4 hours to trace 8 zones. After dealing with a similar headache on a Vista 20p last month I told my apprentice the same thing my mentor told me back in 2012. Has anyone else passed down a tip like that from someone older in the trade?

I read a post once from a 30 year alarm guy who said "an hour of labeling saves a day of troubleshooting" and that stuck with me. Your mentor was right, it's the kind of detail that keeps a system serviceable for years.
