Overheard a homeowner say motion sensors are for catching cheating spouses
Was out on a service call in Phoenix last Thursday and the customer was on the phone saying motion sensors just catch people sneaking around. I had to bite my tongue because she had no idea how many false alarms we deal with from pets and curtains. It got me thinking how many people actually don't get what these sensors are for. Has anyone else had customers completely miss the point of basic alarm components?

Heard almost the exact same thing last week. This guy was convinced his garage sensor was only there to tell him if someone was breaking in, but he kept getting alerts from his cat jumping on the car hood. People really don't realize those things pick up a spider crawling across the lens or a curtain blowing from the AC vent. It's like they think the sensors have a brain and can tell the difference between a person and a puff of air.

Haven't you ever had a sensor that actually caught something real though? I get what you're saying about false alerts, but in my experience the good ones are way more reliable than people give them credit for. I've had motion sensors that ignored cats and bugs totally, but still picked up a guy testing car doors at 3 AM. Maybe the issue isn't all sensors being dumb, but people buying the cheapest ones they can find and expecting them to work like magic. Your mileage may vary, but I've seen cheap sensors cause way more problems than they solve.
