That 30 minute window sensor install that ate my whole Saturday morning

I had a basic window sensor install on a standard double hung window (nothing special) and it took me 4 hours because the old adhesive was caked on like concrete and the new wireless unit kept losing signal through the triple-pane glass. Finally had to tear out the old contact block and mount the new one on a tiny plastic wedge spacer to get it to pair. Anybody else run into signal drop issues with newer low-E glass on residential jobs?

The older 2.4GHz wireless sensors are notorious for getting blocked by low-E coatings since the metallic layer basically acts like a signal reflector. I had a job last month where I had to swap to a 433MHz model just to get reliable pairing through a set of modern Pella windows. If you're dealing with triple-pane glass, your best bet is checking the sensor's frequency specs and maybe grabbing a repeater if the manufacturer offers one.

Did you try moving the sensor closer to the window or adding a repeater?
