That trick with extra wire inside the panel saved me 3 hours last Tuesday
On a job in West Des Moines last week, I had to replace a main panel board that was mounted too tight to the stud. I remembered a tip an old guy showed me years ago about leaving a service loop of about 6 inches inside the can. That extra wire let me pull the board forward enough to work on it without pulling new runs from the attic. Saved me at least 3 hours and a lot of cussing. Does anyone else leave slack in the panel or do you trim everything tight right away?

Man that's one of those tricks you remember forever. I always leave a loop now after getting burned on a panel swap a couple years back in Ankeny. Had to run three new circuits because I cut everything flush like a dummy and couldn't move the damn thing an inch. Been leaving 5-6 inches of slack ever since and it's saved my bacon at least four times. That old guy who showed you probably learned it the hard way too.

Nah, extra slack just makes a mess and costs money on wire you'll never use.
