TIL a 25 foot keypad run in a 1970s brick ranch will eat 18 gauge wire
Installed a keypad on a garage entry door last week in a brick ranch over in Fort Worth and ran 18 gauge like I always do for short pulls. Well, the run was about 25 feet through the attic and the keypad would only light up about half the time. Swapped to 22 gauge and it fired right up every time, no problem at all. I had never really thought about voltage drop on a run that short before. Has anyone else run into this on brick ranches where the attic path ends up way longer than the actual room distance?
