Walked into the new bank branch on 5th and saw their alarm panel mounted inside a broom closet
Stopped by the new credit union branch on 5th street last Tuesday to drop off some paperwork for my sister and while I was waiting I noticed their alarm keypad was stuck inside a tiny broom closet behind the teller line. I install these systems for a living so my eyes just go there automatically, and this one made me do a double take. The panel was mounted about 4 feet up on the back wall, totally blocked by a mop bucket and a stack of paper towels, and the door to that closet is a solid wood one with no vent. If that thing ever goes into trouble or starts beeping, good luck hearing it from the lobby with the door shut. I asked the branch manager, real nice guy named Dwayne, who did the install and he said the low voltage crew put it there because the original spot in the utility room got taken over by the networking rack. I get it, we all make compromises on a job when another trade gets there first, but sticking a panel in a closet that gets locked up at night is basically asking for a service call the first time it faults. Has anyone else run into a spot where you had to mount a panel somewhere dumb because the GC or the IT guy took your wall, and how did you talk the customer into letting you move it?
