My first week as a rehab aide at St. Mary's, I froze during a transfer

Last month I started at St. Mary's outpatient clinic in Portland, and on day 2 an 82 year old patient named Ruth needed help from the mat to the wheelchair. I'd practiced the gait belt technique in class, but when she grabbed my arm I panicked and just stood there while the PT had to talk me through every step. It took me a good 30 seconds to reset, and I felt awful for holding up her whole session. Has anyone else had that deer in the headlights moment early on, or did you pick up transfer skills faster than I did?
