Pre-op fasting rules: 6 hours vs 2 hours, which camp are you in?

We switched our GI clinic's fasting protocol from the old 8 hours for solids and 4 for clear liquids to the newer 6/2 guidance back in March. Honestly, the number of cancellations at our Austin location dropped by maybe 15% because patients weren't so miserable and dehydrated. But I've got one older surgeon who still insists on the stricter schedule, saying the shorter window risks aspiration during sedation. Has anyone else seen real data or bedside differences that makes them lean one way over the other?
