Volunteer clinic in Fresno is drowning in paperwork, not patients

I spent last Saturday at the St. Agnes free clinic on the south side of Fresno and it was chaos. 38 people showed up for appointments but half the staff was stuck at intake desks re-entering the same info into 3 different systems. We need better telehealth options or something, because right now allied health workers are basically data clerks. Has anyone else seen this at their local clinics?

Drove past St. Agnes last month and saw the same thing from the parking lot. But I’m not sure dumping more tech on intake is the fix. The problem I saw was people showing up without their ID or insurance card, then staff spending 20 minutes digging through paper files to match them. One guy had four different records under misspelled versions of his name. Better software won’t fix that if the data going in is a mess. Maybe the real answer is fewer systems, not more.
