A lab tech's 2-word note made me stop overdeveloping everything

After 3 rolls came back with blown highlights he wrote 'stop pushing' on the sleeve, and I realized I'd been adding a stop to every roll since I started developing in my bathroom. Now I develop Tri-X at box speed with stock D-76, and my shadows actually have detail. Has anyone else had a lab guy point out something so basic you felt dumb for years?

stop pushing" hit different once I stopped forcing every roll and just let the film breathe.
