Grandpa swore by shooting Tri-X at 800 instead of 400

My grandpa told me to shoot my first roll of Tri-X at 800 ISO instead of the box speed. I trusted him and the negatives came out super contrasty and grainy but honestly the textures looked awesome. Has anyone else tried pushing film way past what the box says just to see what happens?

Yeah that contrasty look is exactly what makes pushing Tri-X fun, I've done it a few times at 1600 to see how far I could go. Did you notice any weird color shifts in the shadows when you pushed it that far, or was it just pure black and white contrast with no weird tints?

Hold on @troy439, you asked about color shifts on Tri-X? It is black and white film!
