Overheard a lab tech warning about old film tanks, made me check mine

Was at a camera swap meet last Saturday and this guy working a local lab booth was telling someone that expired film tanks with rubber seals can leach chemicals into your developer if the seal cracks. He said he saw it ruin a batch of rolls someone brought in last month, the negatives came out all streaky and gray. I went home and checked my 20 year old Paterson tank, sure enough the seal was stiff and had a tiny split on the edge. Has anyone else replaced their tank seals recently, or do you just stick with the same one forever until something goes wrong?
