Push processing vs pulling, my lab guy says one of these is ruining everyone's rolls and I'm caught in the middle
Last week I dropped off 3 rolls of HP5 shot at 1600 and my lab guy Rick told me pushing is fine but pulling is where people wreck their negatives because they think less time means softer grain. Half the club swears by pulling to save blown highlights at the beach, the other half says just rate the film right and stop messing with the soup. I looked at my own pull test roll from a trip to Galveston and the shadows were straight mud, no detail at all. So which is it, are we overthinking dev times or is Rick right that pulling is a trap for newer shooters? Would love to hear from anyone who actually prints their pulls instead of just scanning.
