Used to shoot everything on auto mode until I tried full manual for a whole 35mm roll

My first 10 rolls were all programmed auto, then I forced myself to meter every shot by eye on a cloudy day. Now I can't go back even for point and shoot stuff. Has anyone else had that moment where manual clicks better for you?

Ugh yes! I shot maybe 15 rolls on auto before I finally locked in manual for a whole trip to the coast. It was totally overcast and I had to guess every shot. The first roll came back completely underexposed but that third roll was magic. I literally can't look at auto mode the same way now either.

My mate Tom from a camera club had this exact thing happen with his first medium format camera. He bought an old Yashica that only had full manual control, no meter at all. First two rolls were pure garbage, completely blown out highlights and shadows you could get lost in. By the fifth roll he was nailing exposures by feel and now he refuses to touch anything that does the thinking for him. He says learning manual ruined automation for him forever.
