Used to write down every frame in a notebook, now I just guess and hope
Back in 2019 I carried a little spiral pad in my camera bag and logged the aperture, shutter speed, and frame number for all 36 shots on every roll. Last week I shot a roll of Portra 400 at my sister's birthday in Cleveland and found an old receipt in my jacket with "f8, 1/125" scribbled on the back, no idea which shots those were. Now I just shoot and eyeball the exposure and honestly my hit rate feels about the same. Anyone else quit keeping notes and notice it made zero difference?
My buddy did the same thing for years and then his notebook got rained on during a hiking trip, so he just gave up on it. He said the weird part was his photos got better because he stopped fussing over the numbers and started actually looking at the light. The only thing he misses is not knowing what film stock he used on some old shots.
