Vent: That bulk loader I bought from an estate sale came with someone else's mistakes

Picked up a used bulk film loader for $30 at an estate sale last month, thought I was saving money over cartridges. Got home, loaded a roll of HP5 in my bathroom changing bag, and proceeded to waste 24 frames because the counter mechanism was jammed from dried adhesive tape. Took it apart and found the previous owner had tried to fix the ratchet with hot glue, which then peeled off and stuck to the film spool. After three attempts and a full roll of blank negatives, I tossed it in my shop's junk drawer. Anyone else bought bargain darkroom gear that ended up costing more in film and patience than buying new?
