Found an old pentax k1000 at a thrift shop in portland

I was digging through bins at Goodwill off Hawthorne and spotted this beat up Pentax K1000 with a 50mm lens for $15. The light seals are totally dried out and crumbling, but the shutter fires clean and the mirror looks good. Anyone know a good source for replacement light seal kits that won't break the bank?

Fifteen dollars for a K1000 with a working shutter is a steal, even with the seals falling apart. Those cameras are built like tanks, so a little crumbling felt is nothing to worry about. You can order a pre-cut seal kit from a place like US Camera or even find a sheet of adhesive foam on Amazon for a few bucks and cut your own - it's a pretty simple job. I've used the self-cut foam before on an old Minolta and it worked just fine; just make sure you get the thickness right. That 50mm lens alone is often worth more than what you paid. Hope you get it sorted out - that's a great find for the Pacific Northwest.

Fifteen bucks for a working K1000" - man, that's insane. I've seen those bodies go for triple that at pawn shops around here, even with busted meters. You basically stole that thing. And yeah, the seal kits are dead simple, I did one on a beat up Nikon FE last year, took like 20 mins. You got yourself a steal, seriously. That lens alone is worth more than what you paid, like you said.
