Found out Kodak film factories still mix their emulsions in batches of 500 gallons at a time

I was reading a interview with a retired Kodak engineer on Photrio and he said they still use the same 500 gallon mixing tanks from the 1960s for Portra 400, has anyone else seen how they actually make this stuff?

Same here. I watched a video tour of the facility a few years back and it was wild seeing those giant old tanks still running. They just keep maintaining them instead of upgrading. Kind of comforting in a weird way.

That old equipment breaks down way more than people realize. Not comforting when it fails.
