My uncle gave me a roll of Kodachrome he shot in 1984 and it sat in a drawer for 40 years

He found it cleaning out my grandma's closet last month. Said he took it to the local drugstore back then and they told him they couldn't process it anymore so he just shoved it in a drawer and forgot about it. I had to explain that nobody can develop it now either. He looked at me like I was messing with him. Made me think about how much has changed just in our lifetimes. Anyone else have old film they cant do anything with?

Goodness, that's a real shame about that roll of Kodachrome. I used to think finding old undeveloped film was like finding buried treasure, but after reading up on the chemistry of that stuff I completely changed my tune. Those dyes they used are basically a lost art now and even if you could find someone to try it would be a long shot. You're right that it makes you stop and think about all the things we take for granted that just disappear.

Yeah that's a real bummer. I've got a few rolls of old film myself that I'll probably never get developed. What @hart.ryan said about the chemistry being a lost art is spot on, it's wild how something like that just vanishes. Makes you wonder what else we're going to lose in the next 40 years.
