A grader at a flea market told me my cleaning routine was wrecking coins

He pointed at my shiny 1921 Morgan and said "you're polishing away the patina, kid," so I switched to just warm water and a soft toothbrush. Now I only get $18 for one I used to flip for $40, but at least nobody laughs at my table anymore. Anyone else get schooled by an older collector on this?

That whole thing applies to way more than coins. Everyone's in a rush to make things look brand new and ends up destroying what made them worth something in the first place. Furniture, old photos, even houses, same mistake over and over.
