Best weekend of detecting I ever had, then nothing for a month

Last October I hit an old fairgrounds site outside Tulsa and pulled 14 wheat pennies plus a 1921 Morgan dollar in about 5 hours of digging. The next three weekends I went back to the same field and all I got was rusty nails and a bent spoon, not a single coin over 1940. Has anyone else had a spot that just dries up like that, or do you think I cleaned it out too fast?

That line about it "just drying up" hit me hard because I used to think every old site had endless finds if you just kept at it. Then I hit a spot near Wichita that gave me a killer barber dime on the first trip, and the next six visits were nothing but shotgun shells and foil. I finally figured out I was digging the same signals over and over, so now I walk a grid pattern and switch up my coil size, and it's brought a couple of those "dead" areas back to life.
