I was dead wrong about cleaning old coins with olive oil

Always heard the old-timers say olive oil destroys patina and ruins value, but I tried it on a crusty 1890s Indian head cent from a flea market in Ohio and the detail came through perfect after 3 days. Anyone else had a surprise success with a method everyone swears against?

Oh man, that's awesome to hear! I've always been too scared to try it myself after hearing all the warnings, but it's cool that it worked out for you. Glad that cent cleaned up nice.
