My cleaning habit was killing old coins for a decade
Found a 1922 silver dollar at a flea market for $20 and scrubbed it with baking soda like I always did. A dealer saw the result and told me I just knocked 80% off its value. I thought shiny meant clean, but those scratches and luster loss are permanent. Now I only soak in distilled water and pat dry, wish I learned that in 2014 instead of ruining a pile of wheats. Anyone else made this mistake or am I the only moron here?
