That $40 metal detector I bought at a garage sale in Akron only finds bottle caps and pull tabs

I dug up 47 bottle caps and a rusty keychain before I realized the thing literally beeps at any piece of trash within six inches, has anyone else gotten scammed by a cheap detector on Facebook Marketplace?

Nah man, you're not getting scammed by a cheap detector, you're just using it wrong. Those entry level units are actually designed to find everything, not just coins and jewelry. You gotta turn the discrimination setting up so it ignores iron and foil, but most cheap ones barely have that feature. The real scam is paying $40 for a device that can't even ground balance, that's what makes it scream at every rusty bottle cap in the dirt. I picked up a used Bounty Hunter for $25 at a flea market and it still finds modern coins just fine once I learned how to set it. You're not gonna get a Minelab for forty bucks, but a decent starter detector should at least let you filter out the junk.

Wait, you paid money for a detector that doesn't even have ground balance?
