Appreciation post: I hit 20 pounds of finished compost in my 5-gallon bucket

I mean, I started this worm bin in my studio apartment six months ago just to see if I could do it. I kept a little notebook and weighed the scraps going in. This morning I pulled out the finished stuff and it was exactly 20 pounds. That's a whole bag of potting soil I don't have to buy. It just felt like a real win, you know? Makes all the little bits of banana peels and coffee grounds feel worth it. Anyone else track their output and get surprised by the numbers?

My buddy's worm bin made more dirt than his whole garden needed last year.

I bagged up about 40 gallons of castings one spring and didn't know what to do with it all. I just put a couple bags at the end of my driveway with a "free compost" sign and they were gone in a day. Gardeners around here will drive across town for good worm castings, I swear. Now I just keep a stack of old plastic pots and fill them up to give away when someone comes by. The trick is to dry them out a bit first so they don't turn into a muddy mess in the bag or they'll get all moldy sitting around. Sort of a nice problem to have, too much black gold.

Nice! I had that happen once. I just bagged the extra compost in old soil bags and gave it to neighbors. Honestly they were all super happy to get free good dirt for their flower pots.
