Hit my first 10 pounds of compost in my kitchen bin this week
I started a worm bin under my sink back in January, and I finally weighed my compost output for the first time. Turns out I generated 10 pounds of finished stuff from just my veggie scraps and coffee grounds over 5 months. How long did it take you guys to hit your first milestone with apartment composting?

That 10 pounds is just the tip of the iceberg, same thing happened to me. @bailey.sam's method sounds way easier for apartment folks who don't want a whole bin setup.

Oh wait, careful there! That 10 pounds is probably the weight of your finished compost, but if you've been adding scraps for 5 months, you likely had way more than 10 pounds of material total before it broke down. The worms eat their weight in scraps every couple days, so the volume shrinks like crazy. For me, my first real milestone was when I stopped buying potting soil because I had enough black gold to fill a whole 12 inch pot. That took about 4 months with a two-bin system.

Started putting kitchen scraps straight into the garden beds instead of a bin. Just buried them a few inches down and let the soil bugs do the work. Took about the same time but saved me the hassle of maintaining a separate bin system. Ended up with way more usable soil than that 12 inch pot you mentioned.
