My bokashi bin exploded on my roommate's birthday cake last week

I live in a studio in Austin and had a bokashi bin going under the sink for about a month. Last Tuesday I forgot to drain the liquid and the pressure built up until the lid shot off right as my roommate was bringing out her homemade carrot cake. Has anyone else had a compost project ruin a special occasion?

Carrot cake is way too sweet and dense anyway, you did your roommate a favor by ruining it. Bokashi has its place and maybe this was a sign to stick with plain old countertop composting next time.

Oh man, I gotta disagree with you there (respectfully, of course). Carrot cake can be amazing when it's done right - not overly sweet and with a nice fluffy texture. The whole bokashi vs. countertop thing is a personal choice for sure, but I think writing off carrot cake altogether is a bit harsh. Maybe the real problem was just the recipe or the execution, not the cake itself. Bokashi has its place in the composting world, but I don't think sabotaging a dessert is the best way to make a point about it.
