My city's waste report said 40% of landfill trash is food scraps
I found the stat in our annual sanitation department PDF, and it made my little countertop bin feel like a real weapon. Anyone else get motivated by hard numbers like that?

That rotisserie chicken thing keeps coming up. Makes me wonder if people just don't see food waste as real "trash" that has consequences. @rosew37, would you say laziness is the main reason, or is it more about people not being shown what happens after the lid closes?

Honestly, that number tracks. My whole building got those city compost bins last year and it's wild what people still toss. I watched a neighbor throw a whole untouched rotisserie chicken straight into the trash chute. The stats make sense when you see the daily choices.

Just pure laziness, honestly. The bin is right there next to the trash. It takes two seconds. That chicken could have been compost or at least eaten. Makes me so mad. We have all the tools and people just don't care.
