My compost smelled like a dumpster until I saw a neighbor's setup
For a year I just tossed everything into a plastic bin under the sink, thinking it was fine. Then I saw my neighbor's balcony setup with a proper layer of shredded paper on top and realized I'd been skipping the 'browns' completely. Anyone else totally forget about adding dry stuff for way too long?

Oh, the classic "browns are optional" phase. I had a bin that smelled so bad it could have been a bio-weapon. Turns out dumping only coffee grounds and banana peels creates a wet, stinky science project. My own neighbor had to gently ask if something died on my patio.

Ever wonder if the smell problem is actually about temperature instead of just greens and browns? A cold, wet pile will stink no matter what you put in it because the good bugs stay asleep. I learned the hard way that a tiny compost pile in the shade just turns into a cold sludge factory. Moving it to a sunny spot and making it bigger made it heat up fast, and that nasty smell just cooked away in a couple days.

Wait, you kept a compost bin under the sink for a whole year? I'm shocked it didn't walk out on its own! That must have been the source of some truly mysterious kitchen smells. I can't imagine the sludge at the bottom of that thing.
