My landlord's freezer tip saved my worm bin last summer
My landlord noticed my bin smelling bad and told me to freeze scraps before adding them. I thought he was just being fussy, but after trying it for two weeks the fruit flies basically vanished. Freezing breaks down the cell walls so the worms eat faster, and it kills any eggs hiding in the peels. Now I keep a quart bag in the freezer and dump it in every few days. Has anyone else found that pre-freezing cuts down on odor in a small space?
