Rant: Stop throwing citrus peels in your worm bin
I kept wondering why my worm bin smelled like a rotting fruit stand and had flies everywhere. Turns out citrus peels are way too acidic for worms and they’ll literally crawl to the other side of the bin to avoid them. I finally figured this out after I lost half my worms in one month from a single grapefruit rind. Stick to apple cores and coffee grounds for your composting worms, folks. Anyone else deal with a worm exodus over orange peels?

My buddy Mike lost his whole bin to a lime once.

Started treating my bins with a calcium spray every couple weeks and that pretty much stopped the lime rot from spreading. I also moved them to a spot with better airflow, which helped dry things out faster between waterings. It took some trial and error but those two changes saved the rest of my plants.
