Spent $80 on a 'self-aerating' bin that just grew mold

I bought this fancy countertop composter online six months ago, the kind with a crank handle you're supposed to turn every day. The ad said it would never smell and break things down fast. After about three weeks, the whole thing just turned into a slimy, moldy brick (I'm talking fuzzy green and white patches everywhere). I had to throw the whole mess, bin and all, into the building's dumpster. Has anyone actually had luck with those crank bins, or are they all a waste of cash?

Actually, mine works great. You probably just didn't turn it enough or added the wrong stuff.

Look, I followed the instructions exactly. I turned it until it clicked, just like the manual says. I even used the brand name stuff they sell right next to it. It still leaked foam all over my counter. Maybe you got a good one, but this batch seems faulty.

yeah totally agree with you @paigec14 on having a good experience, but i think it's a bit unfair to just blame bailey for user error. i mean i've used these things for YEARS and sometimes you just get a dud. the seal on mine was warped straight out of the box and i didn't notice until it started gushing foam. it's frustrating when you do everything right and it still fails. not everyone has the same luck with manufacturing defects.
