Switched from a smelly bucket to a frozen scrap system last month

I used to keep a regular compost bucket under my sink and man, it got rank after like 3 days in my tiny apartment. Fruit flies were everywhere no matter how often I emptied it. A friend in my building told me she freezes her scraps instead of letting them sit out. So I started keeping a ziplock bag in my freezer and just add veggie peels and coffee grounds right in there. Once it's full I dump the frozen block into my little Bokashi bin on the balcony. The smell is practically gone now and I only take it out once a week. Has anyone else tried freezing their scraps before? Does it mess with the composting process at all?

oh totally, been doing the freezer thing for like a year now. honestly it's been a game changer for my tiny place too, no more stinky fruit fly mess. and nah, it doesn't mess up the compost at all, the scraps break down just fine once they thaw out in the bin.

Wait, you've been doing this for a YEAR and nobody told me? That's wild I've been dealing with gross fruit flies and sad scraps for like three years in my apartment. I literally threw out a whole bag of veggie peels yesterday because I couldn't stand looking at the fruit fly graveyard in there. Does the freezer thing really keep them from going liquidy and gross when they thaw? Because that's my biggest fear with it.
