That one trick my neighbor swore by ruined my compost bin
My neighbor Linda told me to add more water to my worm bin to speed things up, said she does it every week with great results. I dumped in a whole extra cup and within three days everything smelled like rotten eggs and half my worms crawled up the sides and died. Has anyone else had a worm bin go anaerobic from too much moisture?

Oh man, that rotten egg smell is the worst. I learned that lesson the hard way too, drowned my first bin so bad the worms practically tried to climb out and start a new life in my garden. Now I just barely moisten the bedding, you want it like a wrung out sponge not a swimming pool. Your neighbor probably has some kind of magic setup or maybe her worms just like living in a swamp. Don't beat yourself up over it, I lost a whole colony to my own overwatering phase and now I'm way more careful. Just let the bin dry out a bit and add some dry shredded paper, your worms will bounce back.

Ha! Nobody's mentioning the real culprit here - it might not be moisture at all. I found out the hard way that if you're feeding them too much citrus or onion scraps that smell can come from the food itself rotting before the worms get to it. Check what's actually going in the bin before you blame the water.
