This week my worm bin got way too wet and I lost half my wigglers

I came home Tuesday and smelled this funky sour smell from my kitchen corner. I looked inside my little 5 gallon worm bin and the bedding was like a swamp, totally soaked because I overfed watermelon rinds. I think the moisture plus the heat killed maybe half my red wigglers before I caught it. I scooped out the soggy parts, added dry shredded paper and cardboard, and now it seems stable but I'm still paranoid. Has anyone else had their bin get waterlogged like this and find a good way to balance it back?

Overfeeding watermelon will do that every time, just gotta add more dry bedding sooner.
