TIL freezing my scraps for a week before adding them to the bin stopped the fruit flies cold
Honestly, I was about to give up because my kitchen counter bin was a tiny fruit fly circus after just two days. I started freezing everything in a gallon bag for 7 days first, and it totally nuked any eggs before they could hatch in my main composter. Anyone else try this method to deal with pests in a small space?

Freezing for just three days works too, saves freezer space.

Tried the three day freeze last month with some second hand furniture. It completely got rid of that musty smell I was worried about. Honestly surprised it worked that fast, I was ready to leave stuff in there for a week. Makes a huge difference when you only have the small freezer above the fridge.

Yeah that smell is the worst, totally feel you on wanting to get rid of it fast. I had the same worry with a secondhand dresser and the three day freeze was a lifesaver. @eric_murphy36 mentioned it saves freezer space too, which is honestly the biggest perk when you're stuck with one of those tiny freezer compartments. I was ready to leave mine in there for a week too but it was fine after just a few days, no musty smell at all. You probably could have gotten away with even less time if you were in a hurry, right?
